Why you applied?

There are many disadvantaged children in Bristol who have little or no access to arts and crafts. Art connects people and engaging in artistic activities can reduce social inequalities and encourage healthy behaviours (WHO report 2019). Our activity packs will support key outcomes including:

- Build confidence and skills through art
- Improve well being and mental health
- Encourage mindfulness
- Providing disadvantaged families with new experiences
- Bringing communities together

- Combatting economic and cultural inequalities
- Breakdown social, economic and cultural barriers to art
- Learning about reuse and sustainability

How has the grant made an impact?

Funding from the Coreus Foundation has been a huge help allowing Scrapstore to produce We made and distributed over 500 activity packs. The packs contained a mixture of arts and craft resources and scrap materials selected for their adaptability to lots of uses. The combination of materials offers very open ended creative and play possibilities which most children embrace easily. As a long standing charity we have a good relationship with our suppliers and several of them donated additional items for us to include in the packs which meant we were able to offer the children even more creative resources than we anticipated. Children love the vibrant colours and it works well for decorating items like the tubs we included in the box as well as the box itself. We cut the sticky back down into more manageable pieces meaning that children can have a greater variety of colours but this takes time. We had about 100 volunteer hours to support with the processing of
the scrap materials and the box packing. The packs were distributed through 6 selected local partner organisations that have regular contact with the families we were targeting.
