Why you applied?

We applied for the grant because we wanted to create a library of high-quality children’s books at our community café. Until then, we relied on a small collection of donated books and toys, but we knew that having a wide range of engaging, up-to-date books would help families foster a love of reading at home. This was particularly important for children from disadvantaged backgrounds, where the gap in vocabulary development can be significant even before they start school.

How has the grant made an impact?

The grant enabled us to buy a dedicated library of books that families can borrow each week. The books have already become an incredible addition to the café. Many families borrow them regularly and tell us how much their children’s interest in reading has grown thanks to the variety and quality of the books available. This is clearly having a positive impact on their learning and future opportunities.
